The City of Stockton’s Public Works Department is currently recruiting for City Traffic Engineer. The ideal candidate is an energetic leader that can effectively guide professional staff in completing a variety of traffic engineering projects and/or issues in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Skills or experience with traffic signals, roundabouts, safety countermeasures, traffic calming, complete street strategies, bicycle facilities implementation, highway capacity manual, and the vehicle code are highly desirable.  In addition, the candidate will serve as a key technical traffic engineering liaison with other departments on traffic-related issues. The ideal candidate will have good listening and communication skills and be able to engage with staff, outside departments or agencies, citizenry, and the media in a skillful and professional manner. The ideal candidate should have the ability to prioritize the City’s needs with respect to traffic operations and safety while being open to creative solutions and considering overall department and City goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and/or possession of a California E.I.T. Certificate with five (5) years of professional traffic engineering experience, one (1) year of which is at a level equivalent to the City’s Associate Civil/Traffic Engineer class.

Other Requirements

  • Must possess a valid California registration as a Professional Traffic or Civil Engineer.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license.

A general understanding of MS Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Synchro/SimTraffic or similar programs is required although proficiency in these programs is preferred.

Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer

Dokken Engineering, a well-established civil engineering consulting firm in California, is currently seeking highly qualified individuals for the position of Senior Hydraulics Engineer to support small to large transportation projects throughout California.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing preparation of hydrologic analyses of large and small watersheds using a variety of calculation methods, including Rational Method, regression analysis, TR-55, and HEC HMS modeling.
  • Overseeing hydraulic analyses of gutter flow/spread, inlet efficiency, storm drain systems, ditches, culverts, and detention/infiltration basins.
  • Performing assessments of runoff water quality impacts and design of erosion control methods.
  • Preparation of plans, specifications, estimates and reports associated with drainage design/analyses.
  • Experience with open channel flow modeling/analysis and scour calculations.
  • Coordinating with internal/external disciplines, utility companies, subconsultants, and clients.
  • Performing quality control for projects.
  • Mentoring staff.
  • Pursuing hydrologic/hydraulic projects with local clients.

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering
  • California PE
  • QSD certification
  • 10 years of hydrology/hydraulic experience after graduation.
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic design software such as HEC-RAS, StormCAD, PondPack, CulvertMaster, WSPG, and other similar programs.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to manager and oversee a local team and work with teams in other offices.
  • Experience with roadway design and CAD software such as Microstation, In-Roads, or Geopak is a plus.
